    Position Overview:

    Bretoba Contracting is seeking a Civil Engineering Technologist / Construction Layout Technologist to lead the layout, coordination, and day-to-day execution of earthworks across multiple small-to-medium scale projects.

    You will act as the on-site civil lead for residential road construction, high-end residential site preparation, grading, blasting/hammering operations, and general terrain shaping. This role combines field layout, technical analysis, and crew guidance— ensuring accuracy, quality, and efficiency throughout the earthworks phase before building foundations begin.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Perform survey layout for roads, driveways, building pads, grading, drainage, and utilities using GNSS/GPS, total station, LN150 and layout tools.

    • Complete point setting, verification, staking and field calculations based on drawings and IFC documents.

    • Interpret civil drawings, plans, and specifications to establish accurate elevations, alignments, and cut/fill.

    • Direct and support equipment operators, blasting/hammering crews, and other site works subcontractors with precise layout information.

    • Ensure the quality, accuracy, and efficiency of earthworks execution across all assigned projects.

    • Re-establish and confirm layout points as conditions change.

    • Prepare shop drawings, as-builts, layout maps, and updates using AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar software.

    • Track quantities, document progress, and assist with scheduling during the earthworks phase.

    • Plan and layout site drainage, including ditch lines, culverts, swales, and surface water management based on site grades and project requirements.

    • Manage day-to-day civil tasks and layout needs independently across multiple concurrent sites.

    • Perform all other related tasks associated with operations.

    Qualifications:

    • Civil Engineering Technology Diploma (or equivalent related experience).

    • 3+ years experience in civil construction, or earthworks

    • Proficiency with GNSS/GPS, total station, LN150 and layout equipment. (some or all considered an asset)

    • Proficiency in Auto CAD, Civil 3D or similar software.

    • Strong ability to read and interpret civil drawings and plans.

    • Experience preparing as-builts, shop drawings, and layout documentation.

    • Comfortable directing equipment operators and subcontractors in the field.

    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to layout accuracy.

    • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

    • No land surveyor certification required — formal surveys are performed externally; you manage the daily layout and verification.

    As a seasoned Construction Site Supervisor/Foreman with a foundation-to-finish focus, you will be a driving force behind the successful execution of construction projects. We are seeking an individual with extensive on-site building experience and a hands on approach. This role calls for someone with an exceptional eye for detail, strong sequencing skills, and the ability to guide trades and crews through complex, custom work. The role will involve coordinating and supervising on-site activities, ensuring strict compliance with safety regulations, and collaborating with project managers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.

    This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in clean, precise workmanship and understands how sequencing, planning and quality checks impact the final result.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Hands-on Site Leadership

    • Oversee daily on-site operations, guiding crews and trades through each stage of the build — from early construction through finishing.

    • Maintain a clean, safe, well-organized site; conduct regular safety meetings and inspections.

    • Act as the on-site foreman, assigning tasks and stepping in hands-on when needed.

    Quality & Detail Management

    • Perform continuous quality checks, catching issues early and ensuring every stage meets design intent and project specifications.

    • Protect the final fit-and-finish standard by monitoring craftsmanship, alignment, sequencing, and material installation techniques.

    • Maintain an exceptional eye for detail.

    Coordination & Communication

    • Coordinate material deliveries, subcontractors, trade sequencing and logistics.

    • Collaborate with project managers on plans, schedules, and budgets.

    • Communicate professionally with clients, architects, inspectors, and internal teams.

    Documenting & Progress Tracking

    • Maintain accurate daily records of labour, materials, equipment usage, and site activities.

    • Monitor progress and proactively solve issues that may impact timeline or quality.

    Qualifications:

    • Proven hands-on experience as a Site Supervisor or Foreman in custom residential and light commercial construction.

    • Exceptional attention to detail, especially during finishing stages.

    • Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, specifications, and finish details.

    • Strong leadership and communication skills, capable of motivating crews and guiding trades.

    • In-depth understanding of construction sequencing, safety regulations and quality standards.

    • Civic Engineering Tech diploma, Carpentry Certificate, other trade certificates or equivalent experience considered an asset.

    • Class 5 Driver’s License required.

    • Surveying experience is an asset.
